Breastfeeding in public?

We asked you if you feel comfortable feeding in a public place. And while 56% feel no restraint, as many as 44% have the opposite. And this really touched us: that such beautiful and NATURAL behavior does not go hand in hand with freedom, because we are surrounded by other people. Witnessing a nursing mom has a big impact on how she will feel. In the question “Have you faced discrimination for feeding in public?” as many as 23% of you admitted that you had. This is a definite minority (fortunately!), but we believe that this result still needs to be improved!

Fortunately, more and more organizations, influencers and companies are starting to do something about this problem, educating, publicizing certain issues, talking. We too, as a company that creates nursing clothes, want to act. Because we think there is really a great need to promote feeding in public places.

But what can a mother do who wants to breastfeed in public, but is ashamed? After all, it’s not about us as moms sitting at home all day, because every time we go out we end up stressing that we’re too far away to come back when the little one gets hungry.

Change your mindset!

First of all, a lot depends on our attitude. A lot sits in the mind! So it’s a good idea to talk to moms who breastfeed in public or read texts from famous moms who boldly talk about their experiences and share tips. Surrounding yourself with supportive women will give you the strength and courage to try. You will see that it can be done!

Speaking of attitude, try to focus on how wonderful feeding is. This moment is a pure example of love, care and a miracle of nature. Don’t let anyone take this moment away from you and turn it into something you should be ashamed of.

Find the right place…

Depending on the conditions, if you come to feed, try turning your back to other people who are in the immediate vicinity. Often it is someone’s gaze that makes you most uncomfortable, and this way neither you will have to glance at other people out of the corner of your eye, and people will have no reason to stare.

You can also almost always find a place that is less frequented. There are alleys in a cafe, restaurant, park or shopping center where you won’t find too many people. If your toddler gets hungry, try to look around and walk quietly in search of a secluded spot. Restaurants/cafes often have areas fenced off with an extra wall/bench or plants, where people often sit who are having a rather confidential conversation – go ahead and use this space for feeding! Also, there are some less traveled paths in the park. If you’re on the premises, you can also just walk up and ask if there’s a place where you can nurse your little one in peace.

However, if you don’t manage to find a secluded spot or you are just nervous about looking, you have another option! You can, as we mentioned, turn your back or make yourself more comfortable. How? We wouldn’t be ourselves if we didn’t mention our nursing clothes! Our patent is created so that you can quickly, but also discreetly remove the breast and feed the baby. In most of our clothes you just need to push back the material, to start feeding freely. That’s all it takes! It’s worth investing in breastfeeding clothes that will last you for months or years! In public places, a blanket to cover up or, if you don’t have one, a shawl or scarf can also work well. With their help you will be able to cover the breast and the baby’s head, giving yourself a little intimacy.

Remember, this is a normal thing 🙂

We believe that there is no need to hide with feeding, but we also know that the first attempts for some moms are stressful. Perhaps the above rules will make you accustomed to feeding in public, and with the next time you will become bolder and bolder! Confidence makes you feel most comfortable, thus – other people do not sense your embarrassment and nervousness.

Remember that you are not alone. We went through the same thing, but also other moms.
